One year ago on January 1, 2018, Move2Center opened its doors and hosted its first Nia class. Melanie, Alyssa, Juliann and Ann were so overwhelmed by our community's support on that day and every day since. It has been our great pleasure and privilege to create a space for West Seattle's Nia community, and we look forward to carrying that through 2019 as well. To celebrate, we're hosting a special 75-minute Nia Jam at 10am Tuesday, January 1, 2019. This Jam is a collaboration between Move2Center's teachers (Melanie, Juliann and Ann) and special friends of the studio. And in addition to being a New Year's Day celebration, it's also an anniversary party! To show our gratitude for our community's support, the Jam is FREE for all current pass holders. So if you have a 5 class pass, an unlimited membership, or a 3 for $30 pass, come join us at no charge. If you're new to our space, the drop-in fee is only $10. Plus, attendees will have access to discounts on pass purchases to help kick start their movement goals for 2019. So don't miss this party! But please do reserve your spot...these celebrations tend to be popular, and we only have a limited amount of space on our dance floor. Questions? E-mail us! As we move into 2019, Move2Center Studio is exploring ways to offer more fabulous movement and healing to our community. And as luck would have it, yoga instructor Susan Westlund is on the same mission.
Yoga is a practice that goes hand-in-hand with Nia and our other partner offerings at the studio. She's offering several experiences in December in the hopes that you'll get to know her and discover the ways yoga can augment your wellness path. Best of all: These yoga classes are part of your 5-class or unlimited passes. And for these trial classes, experience both yoga and Nia for the cost of ONE class! Details: 10:30 am Saturday, December 8th: Experience a 90 minute class, with an hour-long Nia class that transitions directly into 30 minute restorative yoga experience. The focus is healing arts. 10:30 am Saturday, December 15th: This is also a 90 minute class, with an hour of Nia that may begin with 30 minutes of yoga. 9 am to 10:15 am Sunday, December 16th: This is a FULL yoga class separate from the 10:30 am Nia class, which follows. Again, experience both classes for ONE class punch. Coming soon: A series of yoga classes to be offered in the new year, starting in January. Stay tuned... Questions? E-mail us! Experiencing Nia as it is delivered by a master teacher is rare opportunity. Whether it is your first class or you've been dancing Nia for years, Britta von Tagen, the choreographer of Soul and Dragon, has an extraordinary way of making every routine feel fresh and unique.
Check out the flyer below for our Blast Class schedule. We have a limited amount of space available, so we encourage you to reserve your slot. As always, feel free to reach out to us with any questions! ArcanaDance™, created by Jennifer Lucero-Earle, is a therapeutic practice designed to facilitate self-discovery, empowerment, transformation & healing through a fusion of tarot, guided movement & music. In the tarot, the Hierophant (or Teacher) card represents the archetype of knowledge and wisdom. This workshop is focused on ways you can be a more conscious student or learner on a spiritual path. The Hierophant asks us, “What do I believe and value? Where did they come from? Why did I adopt them? How do they inform my life? Are they relevant for the life I want to create?” This archetype shows us ways we can interpret and embody teachings we’ve accumulated throughout our lives from sources ranging from family, spirituality, society, institutions, sacred texts and culture. We will question what we know, its relevance, and learn how to sift through and align the knowledge we’ve accumulated to support the kind of life we want to lead. Details Date: Saturday, October 27, 2018 Time: 1pm - 3:30pm Cost: $50 in advance/$55 at the door Click here to pre-pay and reserve your spot. Arcana is defined as a secret. Dance is defined as movement to music. When fused together, ArcanaDance™ is defined as a secret that is revealed through movement. No tarot or movement experience required! Wear comfortable clothes to move in, your bare feet, water and if you have a tarot deck you love – bring it. Tarot decks will be provided for us during the workshop.
Back in March our friend and First Degree Black Belt Instructor Jason Alan Griffin shared a lovely routine with us called Blue Earth -- and it blew us away. Immediately students asked whether Move2Center teachers would have the opportunity to embody and share it.
Well, Jason is offering an opportunity to learn Blue Earth that's open to everybody. Learn it for your own enrichment...and if you're a Nia instructor, embody and share it with your students! Dance a preview with JAG prior to the Immersion! Class #1: 6:30p.m. Wednesday, August 29 at Move2Center (Drop in: $18 or included with Move2Center unlimited or 5-Class Pass. His idea was to enlist Nia teachers from all over the globe to collaborate via electronic media on a brand new routine. The focus of the routine is on The Base and the intent is to bring Stability to our movements by touching the Earth. ...Students are saying that they love the routine and really appreciate all of the opportunities to settle into stability through focusing on the Base: the Lower Extremities. And while the focus on Stability offers an opportunity to self-heal, there is also great opportunity for a good work-out. This routine leaves students with an open, expansive feeling." First she showed us how to Ignite the Power of the Pelvis and Maintain the Flame.
Now Susan Tate returns on Saturday, July 28 for a workshop guaranteed to lift up everybody: "Cherishing the Sacred the Sacred & the Sensuous in Sexuality." This workshop is magical, truly. I treated myself to previous version of it as a birthday gift to myself a few years ago, and can attest that it is a gift that continues to give long after its three hours are up. Here more about it from Susan herself: "Whether or not you are currently partnered, this workshop is about cherishing your relationship with your sexuality. This dynamic multi-media workshop offers a safe, sensitive discussion space to talk about how sexuality can be fun, sensuous, and sacred too. Pleasure, mindfulness, and wholeness will be discussed in a loving manner that honors individual values and spiritual beliefs. During the last hour, we will seal the experience into the body with the power and grace of a uniquely choreographed Nia routine. No prior Nia experience is necessary." Details Saturday, July 28, 2018 1 pm - 4 pm $50 Advance Registration $65 at the door Don't wait -- register today! We are delighted to offer a special Monday night class with guest Nia teachers Tai Velasquez and Jennifer Lucero-Earle, blending meditation and Nia to start the week in balance!
Jennifer, a much-beloved member of our Nia community who recently relocated to another city, is visiting us from her new home in Southern California. And Tai's bright smile and sparkle are so uplifting for her students. Together, they are creating a beautifully centering evening. Details: Date: Monday, July 16, 2018 Time: 6:30pm - 8:00pm Cost: $27 (tax included) Payment: Cash, Check, PayPal, Venmo and Square Here are the details from Tai and Jennifer: "Our inner and outer worlds are sometimes filled with noise and stressors that can feel unsettling and disrupt our sense of peace. Meditation is a mindfulness-based practice that can guide us to a calm and centered state of being. Nia is a movement-based practice that allows us to consciously guide our body, mind, heart and spirit into increased joy. In Nia, we practice the art of living meditation; noticing sensation, creating space for whatever arises and emptying so that we can be fully present in the moment. Combined, meditation and Nia can cultivate a sustained sense of inner peace, where you feel spacious, centered, light and present. This workshop will introduce you to a simple and soulful meditation practice that will soothe your body, mind, heart and spirit. Then, we will step onto the dance floor for a special Nia class focused on sustaining your connection to inner peace. " About Tai and Jennifer Tai is a meditation facilitator and Nia instructor whose passion is helping people slow down, get still and connect to their true self. Jennifer is a Nia instructor, creator of ArcanaDance™ and a tarot counselor whose passion is supporting people to become more embodied, self-determined and attuned to their intuition. Both Tai and Jennifer are proud to be women of color who deeply understand the journey their sisters go through to find sanctuary in their bodies, community and society. They create loving and supportive experiences so that people can let go, breathe deep and feel their way to hope and healing. Your relationship with your body is the longest one you'll have. Shouldn't you love it?
This is how our view of fitness and wellness should begin. Too often instead we look at it as something we must force ourselves to do or we feel badly for not doing enough, or at all. Ready to flip that script and to craft a positive relationship with your body? Then you're ready to experience Nia. Join us for a two-hour workshop from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, September 21, that's designed for absolute beginners or newish Nia-lovers who want to find out more about the practice. Details: $15 for first-time visitors to Move2Center Studio. 5-Class Pass holders and Unlimited Nia Pass holders may attend for free. Bring a friend! All fitness levels, ages, body types and abilities are welcome! What to expect: In the first hour we'll discuss and move through the basic concepts and principles of Nia. Then, experience a beginner-level Nia class that puts it all together. In Nia classes, we start from a place of pleasure and feeling good. We dance, we kick, we execute punches and blocks, and we laugh -- a lot. In doing this, we become more connected to our flexibility, strength and mobility, increasing our level of agility and improving our sense of stability. With regular practice, you'll experience an increase in stamina and have more energy. So, are you ready to love your fitness routine? Experience your birthright as a force of nature expressing beauty, grace, confidence and power. Join Move2Center's own Ann Nicolaysen on Saturday, April 28th for Dance of the Deep Feminine, a evening of purposeful movement meditation. What is the Dance? Originating in tantric traditions, this is a moving meditation that opens the portal to explore our deepest Feminine essence. It teaches women to move from their center and their womb (or womb space). From Ann: "As women, we hold a universal truth that cannot be understood through the mind. To embody your feminine wisdom it must be awakened through your womb as a second 'brain'. Tapping into the mysterious fluid rhythms of your unique feminine essence, this movement allows for an effortless flow of energy leaving you feeling more sensuous, youthful, and more alive." When: 6-9:30 pm on Saturday, April 28 Location: Move2Center Studio 3618 SW Alaska Street Seattle,WA 98126 (entrance is on 37th Ave SW) Fee: $60 Please RSVP: Ann Nicolaysen at ann.nicolaysen@gmail.com or 206 963-9479 |
