Fall into joyful fitness: Join us for Intro to Nia on Friday, October 4!

 More to the point.. shouldn't you love your workout? 

If you're ready to flip the old guilt-driven, "no pain, no gain" workout script, if you're ready to craft a positive relationship with your body and with your concept of fitness,  then you're ready to experience Nia.

Join us for a two-hour workshop from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, October 4, that's designed for absolute beginners or newish Nia-lovers who want to find out more about the practice.

Details:
$15  for first-time visitors to Move2Center Studio.
5-Class Pass holders and Unlimited Nia Pass holders may attend for free. Bring a friend!

All fitness levels, ages, body types and abilities are welcome!

What to expect: In the first hour we'll discuss  and move through the basic concepts and principles of Nia. Then, experience a beginner-level Nia class that puts it all together.


In Nia classes, we start from a place of pleasure and feeling good. We dance, we kick, we execute punches and blocks, and we laugh -- a lot.  In doing this, we become more connected to our flexibility, strength and mobility, increasing our level of agility and improving our sense of stability. With regular practice, you'll experience an increase in stamina and have more energy.

Universal Dance: After-School Special is coming Saturday, Sept. 21!

 Just in time for fall, Universal Dance is back for a two-hour FreeDance-inspired party! For our third party, we're taking you back in the day -- your school days -- but after class!

Remember slumber parties? Waiting for your favorite song to play on the radio so you can scream with joy and shake it? Dancing around with your friends and not caring how it looks, only how it feels? We do too!

Let's recapture that "13 Going on 30" vibe together next Saturday night...and bring your best pal posse!

Abhyanga Snehana Workshop: Relax with Self-Oiling Massage

It is with the utmost pleasure and excitement that we welcome Ayurvedic Health Counselor, yoga instructor and MuktaDance™ creator Maritza Vargas Reyes to Move2Center Studio!

Maritza will present a workshop inviting you to indulge in Abhyanga, a relaxing, hands-on self-care practice that has great benefits for body, mind, emotions and spirit.

What is Abhyanga Sneha?

Abhyanga (Sanskrit: अभ्यंग "oil massage") is a form of Ayurvedic medicine that involves massage of the body with warm oil. Sneha means Love. Abhyanga Snehana is a Self Care Oil Massage that can be done as part of a stress-relieving therapy. Through this therapeutic massage you will experience a profound sense of calm and connection to your inner being.

In this experiential workshop, you will learn through practice:   
  1. How to do Abhyanga -Snehana with warm oils
  2. The benefits of this Self-Care Oiling Massage
  3. How to identify your Inborn Constitution
Early bird registration: $35 through July 20
Day of: $40 at door

Bring a sleeveless shirt, shorts or pants that can be rolled-up, socks and a medium-large size towel that you won’t mind getting a bit oily. Maritza will provide the oils, cups and paper towels for each participant. Participants will also receive a written summary of the workshop plus suggested guidelines on how to continue the practice at home. The workshop includes presentation and discussion, along with a full Abhyanga practice.

Experience your birthright as a force of nature expressing beauty, grace, confidence and power.

Join Move2Center's own Ann Nicolaysen on Saturday, May 25th for Dance of the Deep Feminine, an experience of purposeful movement meditation.

What is the Dance? Originating in tantric traditions, this is a moving meditation that opens the portal to explore our deepest Feminine essence. It teaches women to move from their center and their womb (or womb space).

From Ann: "As women, we hold a universal truth that cannot be understood through the mind. To embody your feminine wisdom it must be awakened through your womb as a second 'brain'. Tapping into the mysterious fluid rhythms of your unique feminine essence, this movement allows for an effortless flow of energy leaving you feeling more sensuous, youthful, and more alive."

Universal Dance: Soul Train is coming on Saturday, April 20

FreeDance is an important part of the Nia experience, yet a number of students express trepidation about it. But what if it was about dancing your way, and nothing else? What if someone gave you the invitation to let loose and get down?

This is the concept of Universal Dance, a two-hour party inspired by FreeDance. For our first Universal Dance party, we're channeling the spirit of "Soul Train," the legendary series created by Don Cornelius and featuring some of the most creative movers on television.

Universal Dance: Soul Train takes place on Saturday, April 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Drop in is $20, or admittance is included with your 5 Class Pass or Unlimited Membership. Sorry, our 3 for $30 offer is not eligible for this event.

No TV series celebrated the joy of music, movement and the magic created when the two come together as beautifully as this American dance and R&B music institution. It aired for 35 years and was a weekend viewing staple in countless household across America.

If you were a kid between 1971 and 2006, you may have at least heard of "Soul Train." But even if you didn't, you're probably familiar with some of the artists the show has featured over the years, including Al Green, Earth Wind &Fire, James Brown and many others.

And if you haven't, don't worry -- this is a terrific way to dance and feel the joy of their music in a welcoming, alcohol-free setting,  among friends.

A Note from Jill:


Like the birth of a baby, I'm happy to announce the arrival of my debut book "Getting Happy with Your Body". Oh, what an amazing process! Twenty-five years of teaching and a few years of handwritten notes now boiled into nine of my favorite chapters. 

I am thrilled after investing my energy and sacrificing my body (all that sitting!) to offer you my very first written love story that shares my current understanding of how to live in, learn from and love our body.


This project has humbled me, brought me to tears and also lent itself to many magical moments. How can I possibly describe the creative process which takes on a life of its own? Well, I really can't do it justice--but I do feel like I've taken a big soul-exhale.  My hopes is to inspire fresh life into each person who opens the cover.
