In what direction? That’s up to each of us. And all of us. Join us for our New Year's Day Class this Wednesday, January 1 at 10am, featuring our very special guest (and always special to us!) author and movement revolutionary Jill Pagano, joining Mel and Ann in a Happy Body/Nia Jam to kick off the New Year! Beforehand for inspiration, let’s look at the numbers. According to something called “Angel Numbers,” the meaning of 2020 is “that you have all the reasons you need to live your life to the fullest.” In other numerology systems, the energy represented by the number 2020 has a resonance of focus and relationships, as well as conscientiousness, pragmatism, and teamwork. Most of all, 2020 contains infinite potential. According to Affinity Numerology, “The active use and evolution of facts and theories pertaining to a hard science is a 2020 trait. The 2020 energy is adept at discovering relationships among the facts of a science — and relationships between two or more unique science subjects.” Want more inspiration? Adding the numbers together gives us 4 – the number of focus, specifically the focus on conscientiousness and building a foundation for the future. Nia is a mind-body-emotion-spirit practice, and that makes is different from other fitness modalities. It's invites us to condition our bodies, but it also invites us to turn inward and consider all the possibilities we have our our lives. We start every Nia class by setting a Focus and an Intent. This gives invites us to fully immerse ourselves in sensation, and it also invites us to embrace every aspect of movement medicine. We also embrace the truth that Movement Is Life. As such, we invite you to embrace the infinite potential of 2020 and step in with us on New Year's Day... Set Your Focus and Intent... Step Into This Magic Year of Possibility with Your Dance, Your Way. Class is at 10am on Wednesday, January 1. Already a Pass Holder? If you can move freely in it, if it feels good, it's suitable for Nia. However, many times over the past few years Mel, Juliann and Ann have been asked where they get their Nia clothes -- and we're always happy to share our sources! To that end, here's a quick guide to our favorite dance clothing brands. We'll add new favorites as we find out about them. (BTW: We're not getting paid to recommend these brands. We're just devoted wearers and honestly like them!) ![]() Soul of Jiva This is Mel's favorite dance wear brand. The fabric is sturdy and has great compression, and the tailoring is flattering to a variety of body shapes. The company is based in Sweden and offers free shipping to the U.S. However, be aware that if something doesn't fit, you'll have to pay the shipping cost to return the item. Nia Wear Our first fitness-wear love! All of your Move2Center teachers love its flare pants. Nia has largely moved away from the classic styles but a variety of cool leggings and tops sport inspiring mottos and art from each of the latest routines. Nuu Muu
If you've danced with Juliann, Alyssa or Emily, you've seen how flattering these tunics are on a varied of body shapes and sizes. And you can wear them out and about, too! We can't recommend this brand enough! Move2Center welcomes Grandmother Kaariina Saarinen to a pair of special events at our studio. Join Move2Center's own Ann Nicolaysen on Saturday, November 9th for Dance of the Deep Feminine, an experience of purposeful movement meditation. What is the Dance? Originating in tantric traditions, this is a moving meditation that opens the portal to explore our deepest Feminine essence. It teaches women to move from their center and their womb (or womb space). From Ann: "As women, we hold a universal truth that cannot be understood through the mind. To embody your feminine wisdom it must be awakened through your womb as a second 'brain'. Tapping into the mysterious fluid rhythms of your unique feminine essence, this movement allows for an effortless flow of energy leaving you feeling more sensuous, youthful, and more alive." When: 1-4:30 pm on Saturday, November 9 Location: Move2Center Studio 3618 SW Alaska Street Seattle,WA 98126 (entrance is on 37th Ave SW) Early Entry: $55 until November 4 After November 4-Day Of: $65 Please RSVP: Ann Nicolaysen at [email protected] or 206 963-9479 Join Yoga instructor and MuktaDance™ creator Maritza Vargas Reyes for a comprehensive view of Ayurveda as it relates to nourishment on Sunday, October 13, 2019, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Move2Center Studio, 3618 SW Alaska St. West Seattle.
